Synthesized organizational expertise led to increase in customer engagement for the Knowledge Management branch of R&D

Global Pharmaceutical Company

A list of courses on a SharePoint site linked to an LMS

To support the business’s goal of reducing research time and cost, there was a need for a new centralized knowledge repository the Knowledge Management (KM) team could leverage to increase the visibility of their services and products within the organization, provide internal customers with self-service options, and promote the $1M+ of annual resources made available to researchers.

In collaboration with change management, I worked closely with SMEs to identify high-impact training that could support customers globally while reducing training redundancy and inconsistency. I conducted an organization-wide knowledge artifact analysis to draw on existing training and resources that could quickly add value to the new KM team SharePoint site I administered. Leveraging the KM team’s expertise and existing training materials, I designed an on-demand learning series to quickly orient customers to the KM team’s services and product offerings, compliance and research best practices, and product walkthroughs. A series of animated marketing videos were used to promote training on-site and through internal social media channels.

Over two years, the KM team's visibility, products, and services were increased across R&D departments. The KM team reported an increase in customer requests submitted through email and their ticketing system. Managers began assigning the KM training to new hires as part of their onboarding to increase awareness of the resources and services readily available to all employees.

Leveraging in-house expertise, learning journeys, and networking opps brought global Data Scientists together

To support the organization’s goal to foster learning and career development, data scientists across R&D departments needed a centralized repository to access training and resources, sign up for internal and sponsored events, and participate in networking opportunities with colleagues.

Working with change management and project stakeholders, I conducted a user analysis and knowledge artifact assessment to inform the design of data scientist-tailored learning experiences. I collaborated with scientists to unify their knowledge, design learning journeys, and develop training that addressed knowledge gaps across the R&D organization. A SharePoint site I customized and administered was leveraged as a knowledge repository, providing data scientists with links to courses in the LXP and LMS, recorded webinars, targeted resources, and on-site and online events. Additionally, interactive community sessions were hosted to encourage connection and networking among data scientists.

Marketing efforts were successful in driving engagement and attendance at events. SharePoint usage data and Microsoft Viva (Steam) metrics showed an increase in internal traffic to role-specific training and webinars. LMS and LXP KPI’s showed a growing use of training within and beyond the data science community. Data scientists commented during a feedback session that they felt more connected within the organization and were enthusiastic to have access to so many learning opportunities.

From PDFs to an interactive course - mandatory cybersecurity training leveled up

Lam Research, a global semiconductor manufacturer

In support of the business’s goal to reduce cybersecurity incidents, existing mandatory annual cybersecurity training needed to be updated to improve knowledge retention, engage learners, and validate their knowledge.

I worked closely with SMEs and management to agree on the critical information learners needed to know to reduce the volume of content and overall training time. After several rounds of prototypes, I completed development on a 20-minute interactive online training that included animated videos, knowledge checks, and metrics that would be reported to the LMS to confirm employee completion rates. After four years, this training is still used by the training team.

A lesson I learned from this experience is the importance of identifying computer literacy challenges that should be addressed before training is released or should be recognized as a part of post-release support and troubleshooting.

Customer-tailored training increased engagement and software adoption for $1M book of business

Vyond, an all-in-one AI video creation platform

To support the organization’s goal of increasing software adoption and reducing churn, targeted training and resources needed to be developed quickly to boost customer engagement.

Based on the customer feedback, I designed and hosted a monthly webinar series highlighting one or two product features that answered customers’ most common questions within 30 minutes or less. These webinars were recorded and hosted on a company page to serve as an on-demand video library that could be easily shared with customers and Vyond employees to reduce training redundancies.

Website traffic data, software feature usage metrics, and customer success platform KPIs showed that the webinar series increased user engagement and software adoption. The attendance rate for my webinars was above the average for other public-facing Vyond webinars at the time, and customer feedback was very positive. The series also strengthened my relationships as a subject matter expert and customer advocate.

Empowered customer-facing employees through solution-targeted training

To support the business owner’s goal of improving the customer experience, training that covered employee conduct while on-site at customer events was needed.

I conducted a needs assessment, reviewed customer feedback, interviewed the owner, the manager, and the employees, and completed a shadow session to get a clear understanding of the challenges driving key issues. Based on my assessment, I designed a 2-hour interactive training for all employees that covered appropriate on-site conduct, work safety, good communication practices, and best practices for handling various customer interactions.

Feedback from the in-person training was generally positive, and employees expressed that they felt more confident in performing their jobs and were better prepared to engage with customers.
